I designed the logotype and custom typeface called Tuka for Maya, an all-in-one money app that combines banking, crypto, payments, and more for today’s generation of Filipino moneymakers. The brand is built for true financial independence in the new digital economy, with features that help anyone save, spend, grow, and master their money.
Tuka is a custom display typeface designed for Maya meant to be used for headlines, subheadlines, and/or short texts for both online and print applications. Its design has obvious inktraps present in most of the letters, inspired by the pecking of the maya bird.
The name is a Tagalog word that both means a bird’s beak and the verb “to peck.” Its forms are round and bright, which lends a mature, but cheerful personality to a brand that aims to be the app for Filipinos who wish to do bold things with their money.
